HISTORY
Historical Background of the Congregation
Rev. Fr. Vincenzo Ida, an Italian priest, founded the Suore Missionarie Del Catechismo (SMC), also known as the Missionary Sisters of the Catechism, here in the Philippines. It began on August 5, 1939, in Regio Calabria, Italy. In the years of World War II, he witnessed many displaced children and elderly people who were sick and homeless. Seeing this situation, he was deeply moved to take care of them not only physically, mentally, but spiritually as well, and to direct their souls through the group of young ladies he formed (SMC). Consequently, taking care of the abandoned elderly and children who are neglected, abandoned, orphaned, or foundlings became part of the life and ministry of the congregation.
The Rev. Fr. Vincenzo Ida Children's Home Inc. (RFVICHI) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit social action service of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Catechism, providing home, support, and assistance to foundling, abandoned, neglected, surrendered, and orphaned children. It was registered to the DSWD Region IV - A and obtained its License to Operate as a Child Caring Agency in 2019, and passed the 1st level of Accreditation in 2022.
